Maximum Adventure live by the motto “Living Life to the Max!” and their events provide an opportunity for those to do exactly that, whether the challenge of a 100KM MTB race along an old convict trail, trail running the length of Sydney’s Royal National Park or racing in Sydney’s eastern suburbs along the foreshores of Parramatta river.
Prepare a video plan after discussing the brief with organiser. Arrange any necessary access, permits and special shooting conditions required to capture key aspects of the event.
Produce an initial draft for viewing in the week after the event with selected music, graphics and transitions. Once draft is approved produce additional versions based on full video.
Produce three final videos. 1x 90sec for use on website marketing, 1x 30sec video for social media posts, 1x 20sec no-audio video for website banner.
I have worked with Maximum Adventure for about 7-years now, started by shooting their Great Adventure Challenge event in Jarvis Bay. This was a great introduction and from there the relationship has grown to where I now shoot all their events, from competitors to editorial marketing content to now videos. You can view the editorial images I took for MaxAdventure in 2018 riding the entire 68km course on an e-bike and capturing marketing visuals for them to use in future years. Also, if you want to see more of the competitor photography work jump over to my event photography business website, Outer Image Collective, to see the galleries.
The team at MaxAdventure and I were talking at the finish line of one of their events and the subject of video came up. They were interested in using more video to promote their events so after some discussion we decided to do just that for the Convict100, now Australia’s oldest marathon mtb event. It was a success and 3 more jobs were lined up for later in the year.
Coastal Classic trail run in Sydney’s Royal national park was next proving a challenge with extreme winds and restricted access to some of the most beautiful coastline in Australia, another success. With trail running being a hot sport for MaxAdventure I next covered their new Three Bridges Run in Parramatta, only in its second year but already a huge success with near capacity numbers. The final video was for the challenging Bouddi Coastal Run, challenging for both runner and me as getting out on course meant only one thing, a lot of footwork carrying camera, gimbal, drone and running with athletes to capture the action.
A lot of work goes into the pre-planning for each of these videos. I receive a brief from their marketing guru April and we discuss exactly what and to whom they want to market each event to. This plan lets me calculate a schedule so I know how much time I can spend at any location before needing to move on. Key points like music selection combined with titles set the tone and give me ideas as to what I need to shoot maximizing my efforts out on the trails on the day.
These videos are not a big production being around the 60-90sec, there is only so much of a story you can tell in that time. I dearly would love to do a 5:00-10:00min piece that really dives into the story of the race history and the competitors struggle but in a world of endless content, the goal is to quickly share the overall event feel and grab new competitor entries or inspire those to return and have another crack.
If you require such a video for your event, please click the Contact Me button below and lets talk about how we make it happen.
